I didn't know how much fun you could have in Los
Angeles for free! Years ago I went to the
Ice House
in Pasadena, regularly, to experience live comedy. You had to buy dinner
to see the show. It turned into a hundred dollar adventure real fast!
Nowadays, parking in Hollywood to go to the Comedy Store is $15.00 or
more! Then another $15.00 to get in! A great night out, if you can spare
the cash.
Being older and a bit more frugal, I now quench my comedic hankering for
free! Some of the best kept secrets

Steven Pearl by
Damaris Vallani In the most offbeat venues one night you may be lucky and catch
Steven Pearl. A
Comedy Store regular that seems to get as much fun making
crowds laugh as the folks that enjoy laughing with him. His act is unique,
fast and furious. He puts out more energy than a hyperactive child and his
comedy is diverse as a dyslexic Hitler (vision an upside down heil) to
inviting the crowd after the show for drugs and muffins. He disclaims that
afterwards as he hates fiber! Make the effort to catch him (if you can,
phew!)
A well-respected comedian whose been compared to a tornado on
amphetamines. His high-energy comedy act is both outrageous and
hysterically original. Born in Far Rockaway, and raised on Long Island New
York. Steven Pearl has been performing stand-up comedy professionally
since 1979. He began his stand-up career in such prestigious NYC comedy
clubs as Catch A Rising Star and The Improv, moving to San Francisco in
1979. Steve Pearl bio and
pics too!
Filmmakers often hoist the camera and shoot their film or videotape but
have little idea how to turn their hard, heartfelt effort into a completed
show. They wonder what exactly an editor does to make the raw footage come
together so smoothly and fluently. Let me demystify this last process,
called editing, editorial, post production, or simply post for you.

During my
senior year at Stanford University, where I graduated with honors, I
paid my room and board with poker winnings gained in fraternity house
and private poker games. Around this time, LIFE MAGAZINE ran an article
describing the new poker game Hold Me Darlin, as the Texas high roller's
preference to Five Card Stud. I then began to study, play, and introduce
into private homes this game that would eventually be named Texas Hold 'em.
After graduation, I opted for private games in lieu of public card rooms
where only Lowball, Draw Poker, and Pan were permitted. I often traveled
to the casinos of South Lake Tahoe and Reno, where the largest and only
Holdem games existed.

I have always liked to make people laugh. I have always been spellbound
watching comedians flow jokes, comments and insults seemingly off the
cuff. I was thinking about learning stand up for a long time. I ran across
an ad for
Dante's
comedy classes last year. The first class was free and I decided to jump
in. It intrigued me for a number of reasons. I have always been a latent
ham, I feel that I can communicate well, and I wanted to get out of the
house and meet some new people.
His classes are both theory and practical. He has had guest speakers Mel
Kohl (one of my favorites), Georgia Jean (very cool Ausey comedienne),
Joey Gaynor (Improv genius), Rene Sandoval (Que loco!) and more.

'I was born in a
hospital outside of Pittsburgh on October 12, 1969. It was then that I
knew that I wanted to be a comedian. I did all the funny baby bits….the
poop in the pants, dribble on the bib, the clamp down too hard on the
nipple…Things were going great. Everyone would come to see me, and oh how
they laughed! But then I turned two, and my career suddenly took a turn
for the worse. I was no longer the funny baby I once was. The old gags
didn't work anymore. I was constantly heckled and yelled at. They said I
was 'terrible'. I would hear whispers and overhear conversations referring
to me being part of the 'Terrible 2's'. I tried to block it out. I went on
a sugar binge…box after box of Cap'n Crunch, Oreo cookies, and whole
teaspoons of pure granulated sugar. The next two years were a blur.
